Volunteers are truly the heart of the operation at Ronald McDonald House
Charities. Every year we serve thousands of families who travel great
distances seeking specialized medical treatment for their children. We
depend upon the assistance of volunteers to make their experience as pleasant
as possible. Most of our volunteer work isn’t glamorous, but it
is so needed to keep our House safe, warm and welcoming.
A wide variety of volunteer opportunities are available to choose from
for both individuals and groups. Everything that needs doing at your
house or office needs doing at Ronald McDonald House Charities.
It is very important for us to find a good fit.
We want you to have a memorable and
rewarding experience at RMHC.
Summer Volunteers Needed
Unfortunately, illness and accidents don't take a vacation during the
summer. The Ronald McDonald House needs volunteers to staff the office,
keep us organized and help host families. We are open 7 days a week,
12 hours a day. Come keep cool with us through the long, hot summer.
Getting Started
If you are interested in volunteering at the House on a regular basis, please call Volunteer Coordinator Judy Goddard to sign up for the next information session. Volunteer information sessions are on the 4th Tuesday
of every month at 7:00 pm in the living room of the Ronald McDonald House. You will be asked to fill out a Volunteer Application at the information session, or you may print and bring it with you.
If you are interested in doing a group volunteer project, please call House
Manager Matt Hitchcock.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Arizona® (RMHC)
provides a home away from home for families whose children are undergoing
treatment at one of our local medical facilities. RMHC also provides
the Ronald McDonald Family Room, a place for families of pediatric
patients to get away and take a break, located inside University Medical
Center. RMHC is a non-profit organization. We receive no
federal funding and rely solely upon community donations to support the
day-to-day operations of the House. Outlined below are some of
the ways you can help us help our families in need. For
more information, please call RMHC at (520) 326-0060.
Monetary Contributions are Always Appreciated
Memorials or Special Occasion Donations
Your gift can be an individual donation or a way to express sympathy on
the death of a friend or relative. It can also be a contribution to celebrate
a birthday, anniversary, Hanukkah, Christmas or other special event. Upon
receipt of your contribution, an appropriate card or letter will be sent
to the person you have designated.
Ronald
McDonald Family Room
A gift for the Family Room will provide for the purchase of such items
as snack foods, videotapes, lap robes, and other things to make a mom
or dad feel comfortable after being at their child’s bedside for
long hours. This program extends our service beyond the families who
are from out of town to meet the needs of families using University Medical
Center, our partner in this program.
Family Fund
A gift to this restricted fund is used to celebrate the milestones in
the lives of the families who stay in our House whether it is birthdays,
holidays or other special events. We share many smiles and create precious
memories through these events. Funds are also used to provide a hot meal
at supper and for transportation to medical appointments for this without.
Contact the House Manager at 326-0060 x 106 for more information.
Adopt-A-Family
We ask each family to make a donation of only $10 per
night to stay at the House, but many families cannot afford even this
small contribution for an extended period. Our actual cost per night
per family is $70. Families unable to pay are never turned away, but
are placed on our Adopt-A-Family program, to fund their stay. Only 3%
of our annual operating budget is funded by guest fee contributions.
Adopt-A-Room
RMHC bedrooms and isolation apartments are available 365 days a year
to families of children undergoing medical treatment in Tucson. Each
of our regular bedrooms consists of a double bed and single bed with
all the linens, bedside tables and lighting, a dresser, television
and sometimes a VCR. Our rooms are each uniquely painted and decorated
with wall hangings, window treatments, homemade quilts and sometimes
a rocking chair. In addition, the isolation apartments also include
a kitchen area with cooking appliances and utensils, a bathroom, and
a living area with couches, chairs and tables. It is our goal to make
the House, specifically our guests' personal space, as comfortable
and inviting to the families as possible, so that where they rest at
night is one thing they don't have to worry about during the traumatic
time when their child is ill.
Each year, hundreds of families lay their heads on our pillows. This
means a lot of wear and tear on the bedrooms and thus significant refurbishing
costs to routinely replace and update worn out bed linens and furniture.
The Ronald McDonald House relies on our Adopt-A-Room program to fund
the annual refurbishing costs of a bedroom or isolation apartment. Current
Adopt-A-Room donors include The Burros Family, Tee Up For Tots, Honeywell,
and Country Fair White Elephant. Contact the Director of Development
at 326-0060 x109 for more information about available rooms.
RMHC Partners
Businesses and corporations in Southern Arizona support the Charity and
its programs by providing annual operational support. RMHC Partners are
a shining example of the generosity and hospitality of the Tucson community.
Matching Gifts
Some businesses and corporations will match contributions made by their
employees to the charity of the employee's choice. This will double your
gift to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Please check to see if your
employer participates in a "Matching Gift Program."
United Way
RMHC is a United Way member organization (#1031). The United Way of Tucson
allows employees to designate our house for donations and handles the
collection of funds from payroll deduction. If you wish to choose RMHC
as the recipient of your donation, please indicate this on your enrollment
card.
A Charitable Bequest is a Gift of a Lifetime
Ronald McDonald House Charities is eligible to be the beneficiary of deferred
gifts and bequests. This kind of gift can become a treasured memory for
you and your family while it provides support for our families who are
away from home to receive medical treatment in Tucson for a sick child.
Please contact the Executive Director at (520) 326-0060x101 to discuss
your gift.

Welcome Boxes
Make "Welcome Boxes" we can offer families when they check
in to stay with us. Boxes could be filled with personal use items such
as brushes, combs and toothbrushes. Other items for adults could include
current paperback books, pens and note cards, current magazines and small
craft projects. Items such as crayons and coloring books, matchbox cars,
small dolls and stuffed animals help keep kids occupied while waiting
at the hospital.
Necessities Drive
Hold a drive through your church, school or club to collect canned food, paper
goods or new toys. Ronald McDonald House can accommodate up to 18 families
at a time, so we use a lot of food, toilet paper, paper towels and Kleenex!
Check our Wish List for ideas.
Change for Children
Fill a sock for us--put your spare change in a sock at the end of the day.
You'd be surprised at how fast it adds up! We use cash contributions to buy
things we need for our programs.
