Our Chef for a Day program is a fun way to make a generous contribution
of time, effort and food to families that really appreciate it.
- Get a group of 4-8 people together and call the Ronald McDonald
House at 326-0060 to schedule a date and time to prepare a meal. Dinner
is usually served between 5:30 - 6:00 p.m. If you would like
to prepare breakfast, please try to have it ready by 8:00 a.m.
- Decide what you would like to make. Some suggestions for
dinner include pot roast, hamburgers, chicken, pork chops, and Mexican
food. Suggestions for breakfast include eggs, bacon, ham, pancakes,
and waffles. Anything that can be stored and easily heated
up is best since some families may be at the hospital during the
actual mealtime.
- We ask that the meal be prepared in the RMH kitchen so please arrive
in plenty of time to prep all food. RMH has two kitchens you may
use, as well as an outdoor grill, pots, pans, and dishes. If
you have a preferred pot or pan, please bring it with you and remember
to take it home with you when you leave. Note that many of
our children have a low tolerance to germs and bacteria making it
important to use proper hand washing and sanitation of utensils in
preparation of the meals.
- Please plan to make enough food for 30-35 people. However,
we suggest you call a day in advance to see how many people are actually
in the house at that time, since occupancy varies from day to day.
- We serve the food buffet style on the counter between the playroom
and the eating tables so people can help themselves.
- Please do not be disappointed if not many of the families come
to your meal. As mentioned earlier, our guests spend a majority
of their time at the hospital, and often return to the House to enjoy
your meal. We post the special events on a House calendar so
people do know about the meals.
- The most important part of making dinner is to...HAVE FUN! We
encourage you to stay and eat with the families. They enjoy
your company, and appreciate the fellowship. And, although
it is not mandatory, it is also fun to incorporate themes and decorations.
YUM, YUM, YUM!
