Family
Requirements
The Ronald McDonald House of Southern Arizona provides temporary housing for families who must travel to Tucson for medical treatment for their critically ill children. The following criteria must be met for a family to be eligible to stay at Ronald McDonald House:
- All families must be referred to RMH by a social worker, doctor, or nurse at the hospital where they will be seen.
- The child must be under the age of 18.
- The child must be either an inpatient at a hospital or an outpatient receiving daily treatment.
- The family must have a permanent home address outside a radius of 30 miles from the center of Tucson. Families that do not have a physical address are not eligible to stay; the House cannot be used as interim housing for a family attempting to relocate to Tucson.
- Families that have an active substance or alcohol abuse problem, a history of anti-social behavior or domestic violence and that are under CPS investigation should not be referred to the RMH.
- Individuals under the age of 18 may not stay at the House unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Accommodations
Each family is assigned to one of the 28 Bedrooms. An Isolation Wing which includes 12 rooms is available for families of children undergoing Bone Marrow or Stem Cell Transplant or Organ Transplant. All families share the large community kitchen and dining area. This area is stocked with dishes, cooking utensils and some basic food items. A large, comfortable living room, children’s library and playroom are also available for use.
Outside, we have a playground, a patio and garden areas to provide a comfortable, cheerful and restful environment. While the House provides linens, towels, cleaning supplies and basic food staples, we recommend that families bring their own toiletries and any additional food needs. A $15 per night room fee is requested, but may be adjusted or waived due to financial need.
Guest Expectations
Families are expected to treat the House as they would treat their own homes. We understand the stress that our families are under, so we ask that all guests work together to make the House an enjoyable place to be. In order to maintain the comfortable and pleasant atmosphere of the House, it is necessary for all families to help by cleaning up after themselves and by respecting the rights of other families.

The Ronald McDonald Family Room is for family members of patients receiving
Pediatric services. Please read and abide by these guidelines.
The
room is primarily for adult family members or guardians, and our goal
is to provide a quiet and relaxing space. We do not have a child play
area or toys available here. If you need to bring a child here with you,
an adult family member must remain with the child.
Please check in with the volunteer on duty when you arrive; check out
with the volunteer when you leave. Due to our limited space we suggest
you plan to visit us for around two (2) hours at a time.
There are snacks and beverages available in the kitchen. You may also
store small amounts of your own food in our refrigerator. Please use the
tape and markers provided to label your food with your name and the date.
A washer and dryer are available for your use, and we have detergent and
bleach also.
A television, CD player, video player and radio are available for your
use. Please ask for earphones if you would like to watch TV or a movie,
or listen to music or the radio.
A shower area, towels and toiletries are available to you if you need
them.
With your help, the Ronald McDonald Family Room is a clean, quiet
and relaxing place for all of us!
